Hearings into deadly Alaska sinking begin Monday
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Hearings into the fatal sinking of a fishing boat near Alaska's Aleutian Islands are scheduled to begin Monday in Anchorage by the Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigations.

The 93-foot Katmai sank early Wednesday in heavy seas. Five of the 11 crew members died and two remained missing. The other four survived aboard a life raft before being rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter.

A Coast Guard news release says the three-member investigative panel expects to hear testimony from the surviving crew members as well representatives of Katmai Fisheries Inc., of Seattle, the boat's owner.

The National Transportation Safety Board also is investigating the sinking.
