Snow-damaged Olympia school to reopen Jan. 12
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Classes at Capital High School in Olympia won't resume until Monday, Jan. 12, due to damage from recent snows.
District officials made that decision Friday, saying contractors need time to repair natural gas lines damaged when about 2,500 square feet of the school's roof collapsed recently under the weight of more than a foot of heavy snow.
The roof collapse caused extensive damage the high school library.
Assistant Superintendent Jim Crawford says all other schools in the Olympia School District will reopen this coming Monday.
