2 hospitalized after car splits in half in crashBy KOMO Staff
OCEAN SHORES, Wash. - A speeding car slammed into a parked van with such force that the car was split in half, flipped over several times and ejected its two occupants Saturday evening in Ocean Shores.
Alcohol and excessive speed were believed to be factors in the crash, said Deputy Chief Russ Fitts of the Ocean Shores Police Department. Officers were called to the scene at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Point Brown Avenue SW in Ocean Shores. Investigators said a 1993 Lexus was speeding down Point Brown Avenue when it crossed over the center line and ran off the roadway. The car then crashed into a van parked in a driveway in front of a residence. The impact from the collision split the car in half and caused it to flip several times before coming to rest. Both of the men in the car were ejected as the vehicle flipped out of control. The 43-year-old driver and the 38-year-old passenger were taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for treatment of injuries. The passenger later was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The extent of their injuries are not known at this time. The accident is still under investigation. |
