KING COUNTY, Wash. -- A man was killed when his car hit a tree on Monday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers said the 55-year-old man was traveling south on State Route 509 near South 160th Street when he ran into trouble. They said he skimmed a the guardrail to his left before veering to his right, off the road and into a tree.

Investigators suspect a medical emergency as it appears the driver never attempted to slow down or stop the car.

No alcohol was found inside the car.

The name of the man, who is from Normandy Park, has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
