Man sentenced to 75 years for torturing daughter to death

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A 30-year-old Spokane man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for beating and torturing his 4-year-old daughter to death.

Spokane County prosecutors recommended an exceptional sentence for Jonathan Lytle, and Judge Michael Price agreed Thursday he had never seen anything like the homicide-by-abuse case.

Lytle was convicted in November for the death in March 2007 of Summer Phelps. The girl had been beaten, bitten, burned and denied food for long periods.

Summer's stepmother, Adriana Lytle, has pleaded guilty to homicide by abuse. Prosecutors are asking for a 75-year term for her when she is sentenced Friday.
