OAK HARBOR, Wash. - Detectives are asking for the public's help in locating a Renton man suspected of raping a 15-year-old girl in Oak Harbor then fleeing from her home.
Island County sheriff's officials said a north Whidbey Island woman returned home Friday night to see the suspect fleeing from her residence. The woman's 15-year-old daughter, who was inside the home, told her that he was a 29-year-old Renton man who had driven to Oak Harbor and had sex with her. The suspect had met the victim via a mutual friend several weeks previously, and had allegedly been grooming her since that time for the crime, said Detective Ed Wallace of the Island County Sheriff's Office. The victim only knows the suspect as "Vicente." He is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. A search of the wooded area around the home did not locate the suspect, but deputies did find a cell phone that had been dropped. The victim identified the phone as belonging to "Vicente." A second cell phone was found in the victim’s room that she said was a gift from the suspect. This phone contained several images of a man that she identified as "Vicente," including the one shown above. The Island County Sheriff’s Office said it has probable cause to arrest the suspect for third-degree rape of a child, and is seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating him, Wallace said. Anyone who knows the identity of "Vicente" or his whereabouts is asked to contact the Island County Sheriff’s Office via the dispatch center at (360) 679-9567. |
