Israeli supporters rally in Seattle
SEATTLE - When it comes to the question of what to do about Gaza - here in Seattle there is a divide.
Israeli supporters united Sunday afternoon at a Seattle temple - one week after Palestinian supporters marched through the Seattle streets.
More than 1,000 people packed into Temple De Hirsch Sinai on Capitol Hill. They're calling for an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict thousands of miles away in Gaza.
But there's disagreement among local Israeli supporters on how that peace should be achieved.
Outside the temple, a small group of people protested against the solidarity rally - and many of those protestors were Jewish. However, their signs were met with sometimes heated exchanges from supporters of Israeli military action in Gaza.
While the majority of Israeli supporters here are calling for a peaceful resolution - they're also supporting a strong response to rocket attacks by Hamas militants on southern Israel.
Sunday's rally, put on by Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, also was in direct response to a pro-Palestinian rally last week, when about 1,500 people marched in the streets of Seattle.
Last week's protesters blamed Israel for killing scores of innocent men, women and children.
It's clear that, thousands of miles away from the conflict, here in Seattle, the divide is growing over how to resolve the conflict and who's to blame.
