BELLEVUE, Wash. - A 23-year-old Issaquah man was struck by a car while attempting to cross Interstate 405 on foot in the early Saturday morning darkness.

The man survived the impact but is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers said the man was on foot in the southbound HOV lane when he was struck by a 2002 Honda Accord driven by a 48-year-old Edmonds woman.

It is unknown why the man was trying to cross the freeway or whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The driver of the Honda was unhurt. The car was towed to a wrecking yard with an estimated $5,000 in damage.
