Your biggest traffic pet peeves?
We all spend time stuck in traffic, and that means we all have our gripes about the way other people drive. It's not hard to find people willing to tell you what irks them when they're out on the road:
- "My pet peeve would be people who don't understand how a four-way stop works."
- "I hate it when you're going down the freeway and the little red BMW pulls right in front of you and slows down."
- "I swear, people buy cars without turn signals."
...and the list of gripes from area drivers goes on.
Washington State Patrol Sergeant Freddy Williams said it wouldn't take a lot to make our commutes easier to take.
"If we would just extend common courtesy," he said.
I guess that's better than extending a single finger.
"In actuality, most of the laws on the books would almost be unnecessary if people would do the right thing," Williams said.
But since we don't live in that magical kingdom of good driving fairies, magical unicorns, and good manners, sometimes, you just have to vent.
"You know what really hacks me?" one driver tells KOMO. "When I'm traveling up I-5 to get on 520, and it's backed up, and someone goes all the way past and tries to squeeze in right at the exit."
Another driver told me she has a beef with your merging skills, or lack thereof. She insists the person merging onto the freeway from the off-ramp should speed up and match the speed of the freeway traffic.
That's close.
"The people on the mainline of the freeway have the right-of-way," said Williams. "So, when a person comes on from the ramp, it's their duty and responsibility to merge safely, whether that means speeding up or slowing down."
We're obviously just beginning to cover all the driving pet peeves. Come back tomorrow and read about the rage you spawn when using a cell phone, or when you text and drive.
In the meantime, vote for your top three driving pet peeves by taking a survey we've put together in partnership with AAA.
