SEATTLE -- Federal agents are investigating three separate bank robberies that took place on Monday.

Detectives said a man robbed a US Bank branch on Nickerson Street on the campus of Seattle Pacific University at 10:30 a.m. The man demanded money then fled on foot, prompting university officials to lock down the campus for a time.

Then at 12:44 p.m., the Alaska Federal Credit Union located inside a grocery store at 7300 Roosevelt Way NE was hit. A man handed a teller an open book that contained a note demanding money, police said.

At 2:05 p.m., a KeyBank branch in the 400 block of Queen Anne Avenue North was robbed. A man wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses handed the teller a note, instructing him to put cash into a backpack he presented.

The teller later told federal agents he knew the man planned to rob the bank by the way he was dressed. The teller also noted the man remained quiet and appeared nervous.

Detectives do not believe the robberies are connected.

"For a short period of time, we were thinking 'maybe it's the same guy running from bank to bank.' But now we've got photos and it looks like we've got three different guys that were robbing out there today. Just a coincidence they all decided to do it today," said FBI spokesperson Robbie Burroughs.

None of the three robbers showed a weapon.

On Monday afternoon Bellevue and Kirkland police officers located a transponder connected to the US Bank robbery at the end of a cul-de-sac in Bellevue. No other details were immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on any of the robberies or the robbers' identities is urged to call the FBI's 24-hour tip line at 206-622-0460.
