4 1/2-year sentence for man who sexually abused teen girl

SEATTLE -- A 28-year-old man was sentenced to 54 months in prison Friday for sexually abusing a teen girl.

Prosecutors said Ryan Delbert Moses engaged in sexual conduct with the 14-year-old victim over a three month period in late 2012 and early 2013, and had given the girl gifts and rides home from middle school to manipulate her into sexual conduct.

"You were 27 and this is a young girl who is 14-years-old… this is criminal," U.S. District Judge Richard A. Jones said during sentencing Friday. "It was illegal and you had no basis to be involved with a person of that age."

Moses pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual abuse of a minor in January.

The case was prosecuted in federal court as Moses is a member of the Tulalip tribe and the abuse occurred on tribal land.
