1 dead, 4 hurt in multi-car crash near Magnolia Bridge

SEATTLE -- Five people were injured, one fatally, in a crash involving at least three vehicles near the Magnolia Bridge early Tuesday.
"I heard a car honk and I turned around and I saw a Jeep hit head-on into a Subaru, go up and over into a complete roll and slide to a stop up on its side and it ran into another car," said witness Jordan McDonald. He says the impact knocked the driver of the Subaru unconscious and she was trapped inside the mangled wreckage.
"Me and by boss ran and grabbed some tools and tried to pry the door open (of the Subaru) and it was just chaos, mayhem."
Also among the first on the scene were an off-duty Seattle Fire Department paramedic and an American Medical Response EMT. Fire department spokesman Kyle Moore said the two performed CPR on the woman while she was still trapped in the car.
Firefighters arrived and cut the roof off of the mangled car and the woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center where she was pronounced dead several hours later. Her name has not been released.
Four other people who were injured were taken to Harborview and were expected to recover.
The crash happened about 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of 15th Avenue West and West Garfield Street, and police shut down part of the road while they collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.
It was not clear what caused the crash.

I still don't get the dynamics of how this wreck came about. Was the poor woman in traffic, or cutting across? The early photos with the roof of the Subaru still intact made it seem like the SUV at least partially rolled over the driver's area and windshield of the Impreza. Doesn't appear to be a head-on at all as stated in the article by a witness; the Subaru's damage makes it appear that it was hit broadside, not face-on, then the SUV came over and bounced onto the top of it, perhaps? The roof damage is only in the front, which seems to infer that there was some momentum and air time for the SUV behind that impact, especially considering where the SUV ultimately ended up, on its side and 'behind' the direction that the Subie was facing.
My co worker watched the whole thing. The Red Jeep went into the center lane...dodged the car turning and headed straight into and flipped up over the Subaru.Â
Sad to hear she passed away.Â
