4 injured in overnight wrong-way crash on MLK Jr. Way
TUKWILA, Wash. - Four people were injured early Saturday when a driver heading the wrong way up Martin Luther King Jr. Way struck two other vehicles.
The wrong-way driver suffered life-threatening injuries in the wreck. Occupants of the two other vehicles sustained less serious injuries.
Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, the Washington State Patrol reported.
Troopers responded to the scene, on the Martin Luther King Jr. Way overpass at Interstate 5, just after midnight.
A preliminary investigation found that a Ford Explorer was heading north in the southbound lanes of Martin Luther King Jr. Way when it struck an oncoming Honda with a glancing hit.
The Explorer then crashed head-on into a Toyota SUV.
Victims had to be extricated from both vehicles.
The wrong-way driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Three victims in the two other vehicles were treated for less serious injuries.
The State Patrol is investigating the crash as a possible vehicular assault.
