Recycling truck driver killed by compactor
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Eugene police say the driver of a recycling truck died Monday when he was crushed by the compactor.
Police spokeswoman Melinda Kletzok said the driver's name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The wife of the man who found him told The Register-Guard newspaper that she and her husband heard the truck arrive to pick up their trash. She says the driver got out and climbed onto the truck for an unknown reason.
Minutes later, her husband glanced out the window and noticed the driver was on the truck, but not moving.
Kletzok says the compactor on the side loader accidentally released and crushed him.
The accident is under investigation.
