SEATTLE -- You've seen the bracelets, WWDJ: What Would Jesus Do?

This Good Friday, Dr. Wes Howard-Brook, a catholic theologian and professor at Seattle University, is answering that question in one word: protest.

"To remember people who've been tortured and are political prisoners around the world today," says Dr. Howard-Brook.

But this isn't your run-of-the-mill protest.

More than a dozen people from different faiths gathered in a circle for the noon event, reading from the Bible, singing, beating a drum, and breaking bread in communion.

"This is basically a Good Friday worship service," explains Dr. Howard-Brook.

Each year on this day, a group organized by Dr. Howard-Brook and his wife, gather outside in downtown Seattle.

"Here we are at the local federal building, just participating in the space rather than being in the safety and security of a warm church building."

Dr. Howard-Brook says Jesus preached outside government buildings, then he was tortured and put to death by the government.

Noting that there are at least 100,000 political prisoners in the world today, Dr. Howard-Brook adds: "For us as people of faith, this isn't just an observation of something that happened long ago and far away. It's an ongoing, living reality."
