Man accused of driving drunk twice in same day
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Police here said they charged a man with drunken driving twice within the span of five hours on Friday.
The situation began around 11 a.m. when an officer saw a pickup run a red light in McMinnville and stopped the driver, who was eventually arrested on suspicion of DUII-alcohol, police said.
A breath test after the arrest indicated the driver had a blood-alcohol level of .26, which is three times the legal limit of .08, police said.
Carl Elton Reeves, 52, of Salem, was cited and released into the custody of his grandmother, police said, and his pickup was impounded.
Several hours later, a tow company released the vehicle to another person with the understanding that Reeves was not allowed to drive it. But soon after the pickup left the tow yard, the other driver switched seats with Reeves, who drove away, police said.
A tow company employee called police and followed the pickup to a liquor store, according to police. Officers arrived as Reeves was leaving the parking lot, and they pulled him over after observing him break another traffic law, police said.
After an investigation, Reeves was again arrested on suspicion of DUII-alcohol, and his blood-alcohol level this time was at .20, police said.
This time Reeves was lodged in the Yamhill County jail pending his arraignment. Bail has been set at $6,250.
