More human bones found near Lacey school

The human skull was found about 500 feet from Meadows Elementary School near Olympia, and more bones were found later nearby.

LACEY, Wash. - More human bones have been found in a wooded area near a Lacey elementary school where a skull was found earlier.

The bones were found Saturday near Meadows Elementary School, on Deerbrush Drive SE, just outside Olympia, two days after children found a human skull in the same area.

Police say the skull found Thursday evening appears to be from a man aged 35 to 40 and may have been there a year or longer.

The newly found bones include a human jaw bone, a thigh bone and other remains, including teeth with dental fillings, which may help with identification.

Lt. Chris Mealy of the Thurston County Sheriff's Office said a preliminary search of the area also found a spent .38 caliber shell casing near the skull. Detectives are trying to determine whether or not there is a connection between the skull and the spent casing.

Sheriff's Detective Rod Gray said the man's death is considered suspicious, but officials can't say whether he was a homicide victim.

The skull originally was found by three boys who then went home and told their grandmother. She went to the location took a photo of the skull on her cell phone, then called police.
