WSP seeks help in hit-and-run probe
Sarah Kearney is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center. She is breathing on her own and responding to commands. Her family members have been praying by her bedside, hoping for signs of improvement.
Kearney was driving home Tuesday night on Highway 18 when a truck crashed into her near the Kent Kangley Road exit near Kent.
The collision shattered the windshield of Kearney's Mustang, ripped out the driver-side door and left Kearney with severe head injuries.
Investigators said the truck driver then fled, leaving Kearney for dead.
"To me, there is no excuse for leaving someone on the side of the road who is bleeding and has a critical injury," said the victim's sister, Heather Kearney. "I'm just confused, confused as to why somebody would leave her on the side of the road."
Heather Kearney, said she could not believe the sight of her sister's mangled car.
"My heart sank into my stomach when I saw it," she said.
Alongside the victim's car, troopers found two auto parts they believe belong to the truck driver's car -- a left taillight assembly and a post possibly belonging to a flat-bed truck.
"If somebody sees a truck missing those pieces, we do ask that they call the State Patrol and provide any information that they have," said Stacy Moate of the Washington State Patrol.
As detectives continue investigating, Heather Kearney hopes the driver will turn himself in.
"Just come forward. We're a Christian family. We'll forgive you, Just come forward," she said.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Washington State Patrol at 425-401-7719.
