Navy diver dies while training in waters off of Bremerton
BREMERTON, Wash. -- A Navy diver has died while training in the waters off of Bremerton.

Navy officials said Eric F. Shellenberger, a special warfare operator, died on May 7 in a diving incident.

While underwater Thursday morning, Shellenberger, 36, ran into trouble and signaled for an emergency ascent. When he surfaced, he was not responsive, officials said.

Shellenberger was rushed to the pier then to a nearby hospital, but could not be revived.

The cause of death has not been determined, and Navy officials are investigating the incident.

Shellenberger was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle (SDV) Team One at Pearl City, Hawaii. He is survived by his fiance.
