Committee down to 2 picks for Sims replacement
KING COUNTY, Wash -- The Blue-Ribbon Selection Committee has recommended two candidates for the interim office of King County executive.
After conducting interviews, the 16-member panel on Wednesday said it has narrowed down its choice to Seattle Mayor Charles Royer and interim County Executive and former Executive Chief of Staff Kurt Triplett.
Former County Councilmembers Steve Hammond and Louise Miller were also interviewed.
All four candidates will be present at a special meeting on Monday, May 18 at 9 a.m. at council chambers at which time the King County Council will make its final appointment.
The short-term appointment would be to fill the position vacated by Ron Sims, who was confirmed by the U.S. Senate last week as deputy secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
