No one hurt as 2 planes collide in Skagit Co.
BURLINGTON, Wash. - It's not every day that two planes collide and no one aboard either plane is injured - but it happened Saturday evening at the Skagit Regional Airport.
Officials said a biplane collided with a fixed-wing Cessna on the airport runway as the biplane was coming in for a landing.
The impact knocked the Cessna onto its side, broke off most of its left wing and scattered debris over the paved runway. The biplane flipped over after slamming into the Cessna.
Two people were aboard each plane, and all four of them walked away from the crash without injuries, officials said.
Skagit County sheriff's deputies said the biplane came in for a landing virtually on top of the Cessna, which had just landed a moment before.
Witnesses told deputies that the biplane had been doing aerobatics before the crash. The Cessna reportedly was returning from a fishing trip.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the accident.
