At least two people were killed and more were injured in a rash of highway accidents late Saturday and early Sunday, including a man who flipped his Jeep at high speed into a car dealership in Parkland.

The series of Memorial Day weekend crashes kept state troopers, police and medics busy - and they remain prepared to react to more, if necessary.

Probably the most spectacular accident involved a 2003 Jeep Cherokee that was streaking north at high speed on Pacific Avenue South in Parkland early Sunday near the intersection with Highway 512.

Photo shows damage to one of the 12 vehicles trashed when a Jeep Cherokee flipped over into a car dealership at high speed.
The vehicle left the roadway, flipped over several times and landed on top of cars parked at the Parkland Chevy dealership.

When state troopers arrived at the scene, at about 3:35 a.m., they found the heavily damaged Cherokee was still running on top of cars parked in the lot.

The driver, Anthony T. McDonald, 28, of Renton, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and landed 150 feet away. He was pronounced dead at the accident scene by medical personnel.

The Jeep hit a dozen vehicles as it flipped wildly through the car lot, causing up to $300,000 damage at the dealership. Shattered glass, crumpled metal and ripped-apart plastic were strewn everywhere. Plus, signs were posted warning of a bio-hazard - because the impact was so gruesome.

"Traveling at that high rate of speed and (to) take 12 cars on our front line, yeah - he had to be traveling at a very high rate of speed," said Ron Van Geystel, the dealership's sales manager.

Troopers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, and it is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved. McDonald was not wearing a seat belt.

Other serious accidents reported overnight in the region:

- A 22-year-old Lacey woman driving east on Highway 12 in Thurston County just after midnight Sunday was killed when another vehicle swerved across the centerline and smashed head-on into her 2006 Chevy Aveo. The State Patrol identified the woman as Natalie J. McLaughlin.

The car that struck her was a 1992 Mazda van driven by a 27-year-old Chehalis man. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of injuries.

Both vehicles were totaled. Factors that led to the collision remain under investigation.

- Two people were injured when a 1997 Nissan driven by a 44-year-old Montesano woman crashed into a Seattle motorcycle cop who was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson south on Interstate 5 near 188th Street late Saturday.

State troopers said drugs or alcohol were involved, and charges of DUI and vehicular assault are pending against the woman.

According to WSP reports, the Nissan and the officer were both heading south at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday when the Nissan struck the motorcycle.

Both the woman and the officer were transported to Harborview Medical Center.

- A Ford F150 pickup crashed into a ditch early Sunday on Lummi Island, injuring two of the vehicle's four occupants.

The State Patrol says alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the crash, caused when the 62-year-old driver lost control while rounding a corner on Legoe Bay Road at about 4:30 a.m. None of the vehicle's occupants were wearing seat belts.

- Earlier, on Saturday afternoon, a motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries when he crashed at high speed into the rear of a vehicle that was heading north on Evanston Avenue North. The motorcyclist was taken to Harborview.
