Speeding driver crashes Porsche into water off Alki
SEATTLE -- A speeding car left a road and crashed into Puget Sound off Seattle's Alki neighborhood early Tuesday.
The fire department responded at 2:15 a.m. found the Porsche about 30 feet off shore near 1170 Alki Avenue SW.
The driver had escaped the sinking car and climbed onto some rocks.
Witnesses told police the driver was speeding when the vehicle jumped the curb, crashed into a utility pole and launched into the water.
Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen said a diver checked the car to make sure no one was still inside.
Firefighters pulled the driver from the rocks and took the man, who is in his 50s, to Harborview Medical Center. He is expected to survive.
Divers attached chains to the submerged car and a tow truck hoisted it from the water.
