Thousands of chickens die in 3-alarm fire
STANWOOD, Wash. -- Thousands of chickens were killed at a poultry farm in large 3-alarm blaze early Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out around midnight at the farm at 1930 268th Street NW, and flames quickly engulfed the three large buildings.

Tanker trucks were needed to bring in water, complicating firefighting efforts.

"This is a very large, intense firefight," Battalion Chief Christian Davis said.

The three buildings - each about 60 feet wide and 600 feet long - burned to the ground with chickens inside.

Firefighters estimate the damage at $2.2 million.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and Davis said crews were expected to remain on scene through much of the morning putting out hot spots.
