PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Nineteen teachers in the Puyallup School District are being offered either full or part-time jobs for next year.
The 19 were among 68 teachers that received layoff notices in May in an effort to balance their budget. The district says resignations, retirements, and other factors had created the openings, and new information on state and federal funding, they had room in the budget to bring back 19 teachers.
Not all teachers will return to the same assignments they had last year, district officials said.
Those offered a job back were based on seniority and teaching endorsements, said Director of Human Resources Margie Jensen.
