Nightmare startles awake one Bellevue family
A Bellevue family escaped trouble by a hair when trees came crashing through their roof and landed on their beds where they'd been sleeping.

Three huge trees nearly knocked out the Bergstroms Thursday night.

Ken Bergstrom says he luckily got up to go to the bathroom just at the right time.

"I was in there and heard this loud boom and I came out and this is what was in my room and this insulation was just boiling up like a cloud of smoke," he said.

Then came the second boom.

The second tree thundered down on Ken's sleeping son.

"He was buried in his bed in there and all the plaster board came down on top of him. We had to dig him out," he said.

Amazingly, the family did not suffer any injuries, but now facing tens of thousands of dollars in damage and months of repairs.

Neighbors haven't fared much better. A huge tree smashed this car .. Just one of the effects of the ferocious storm.

And it was a sleepless night because of all the cracking and crashing.

"We had quite a domino. Large fir taking down hemlock , blue spruce came down," said Mike Bean, a storm victim.

The east Bellevue neighborhood is isolated because of downed trees and dangling power lines.

Some drivers took the risk and tried to drive around the down lines on Friday, but quickly realized the difficulty of the task.

Crews say the cleanup has just barely begun.
