Illegal fireworks found at Tulalip stand
TULALIP RESERVATION, Wash. -- Police have arrested a couple accused of selling illegal fireworks at Boom City Fireworks, a market of vendors on the Tulalip Reservation.
Investigators said a tip led them to the Louie, Louie Fireworks stand at Boom City on Sunday night. They uncovered thousands of dollars' worth of illegal and homemade explosive devices, including mortar shells and M-500 explosives.
Because some of the devices appeared unstable, police asked for the aid of the bomb squad and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Detectives have begun documenting the inventory of the found devices, and they don't expect to be finished until Wednesday.
The woman has been released. Her husband, however, remains in jail. Their names have not been released.
Tribal members must have a permit to sell on their reservations, and that permit allows police to conduct random searches of the fireworks stands.
Fireworks sold on reservation land, while not subject to state laws, must follow federal guidelines.
