MONROE, Wash. -- A two-story home was destroyed by fire Monday evening, and fireworks might be to blame.

The fire began around 7:42 in the 200 block of South Madison Street, said Richelle Risdon with the Monroe Fire Department. When firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames and firefighters had to fight the fire from the outside.

One person inside had to climb out second story window and into the roof when the fire began, and a neighbor helped get that person onto the ground. The resident was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Firefighters are still looking into the cause of the blaze, but said fireworks were found in a nearby area. The home is a total loss.
