SEATTLE - A 47-year-old Seattle man who allegedly threatened to kill another man because of his sexual orientation has been charged with malicious harassment.

Michael A. Grundstrom was arrested and charged after he threatened a gay man who was wearing a pink bandana outside a convenience store located at 2502 Western Avenue, according to court documents.

The incident unfolded Monday night when Grundstrom approached within four feet of the victim and asked, "Pink bandana, what, are you some kinda fag?" court documents say.

When the victim said he was gay, Grundstrom allegedly responded by saying, "All fags are child molesters and if had my way I would kill all of them."

The victim said Grundstrom "puffed up" and squared off his body while raising his arms and balling both fists. The victim felt he was about to be attacked by Grundstrom, when Grundstrom suddenly walked away, according to charging papers.

Shortly after, court papers say, Grundstrom started walking back toward the victim with balled-up fists and yelled, "If I ever see you with a child, I'm going to kill you."

The victim feared Grundstrom and believed he was going to follow through with his threats to kill him because of his sexual orientation, so he pepper-sprayed Grundstrom in self-defense when he approached even closer, court documents say.

Grundstrom immediately fled into the nearby convenience store, the Site 17 Grocery, and attempted to wash the pepper spray from his eyes.

According to charging papers, Grundstrom demanded that the store owner give him some napkins or he would "kill" him. The store owner refused and told Gundstrom to get out of his store.

Grundstrom again threatened to kill the store owner and called him a "chink," court papers say. Grundstrom then left the store and headed down an alley.

The victim and store owner each called 911. Officers responded to the scene and found Grundstrom shortly afterward. He was arrested and is being held on $10,000 bail.
