Trooper injured as patrol car rear-ended
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - A state trooper was hospitalized after his patrol car was struck from behind by another vehicle Sunday afternoon outside Bellingham.

The collision happened on State Route 542, also known as the Mount Baker Highway, just west of Mission Road at about 3 p.m., said WSP spokesman Keith Leary.

The state trooper was slowing to make a left turn into a driveway without his emergency flashers on when he was struck from behind by a car driven by a 20-year-old Bellingham woman.

The trooper, a 23-year veteran of the Washington State Patrol, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham with neck pain. The woman sustained minor injuries, and she was also taken to the hospital.

Alcohol and drugs were not involved, and it appears the driver could not stop in time, Leary said.
