SEATTLE - Yo-ho-ho and a carton of milk!

When pirates invade Seattle and floating mirages made of milk cartons race across Green Lake, it can only mean one thing - Seafair season is here at last.

And this year marks the 60th anniversary of the annual summertime celebration.

Although the Blue Angels, hydros and Torchlight Parade are still a couple of weeks away, this weekend's events were enough to get Seattleites in the mood for some serious fun.

Down at Alki, a shipload of cutlass-wielding scurvy dogs invaded under a skull-and-crossbones banner - much to the delight of scores of children who were waiting there.

"We're taking over Seattle, ha-ha-ha-ha!!" menaced one pirate, but the kids didn't seem too worried. Perhaps they wouldn't mind if pirates really did take over the city.

At Green Lake there was a different type of fun out on the water - as more than 100 milk carton boats competed for $10,000 in prizes.

"We bumped into a lot of things and we had trouble turning, but otherwise we had a lot of fun," said one competitor.

And Seafair wasn't the only celebration going on this weekend.

Seattle's International District is hosting a summer festival, complete with sun, fun, shopping - and of course the amazing food. Some 45,000 people are expected to flock to the festival, which continues Sunday.

Also continuing on Sunday will be West Seattle Summer Fest, which coincides with the Seafair pirates landing at Alki. Just head up California Avenue to join in the fun.
