Two rescued from lift caught in power lines
TUKWILA, Wash. -- Two men were trapped several stories high Thursday afternoon when their boom lift touched a pair of power lines.
The incident occurred just after noon at 7200 Fun Center Way in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn Hotel.
The men were preparing to paint the exterior of the hotel when their lift touched the power line, burning one man while knocking out power to the unit, leaving it inoperable.
The men were stuck several feet off the ground and just a few feet under the power line for over 30 minutes. Video from Air 4 showed the men crouched down in the lift's bucket while they awaited rescue.
Once Puget Sound Energy officials disabled the power lines, firefighters used a ladder truck to reach the men and bring them back down to safety.
Firefighters say both men were taken to a local hospital for treatment. One suffered burns to his back and hands but the injuries weren't considered serious. The other didn't have any visible injuries.
The Department of Labor and Industries will investigate the accident.
