13,000 people in Stanwood and Camano Island lost power on Sunday morning when the storm's snow and ice interfered with a transmission line. Most of the residents got their power back around 3 p.m., but the outage sent residents scrambling to find a way to catch the big Seahawks game.
Resident Scott Howell lost power at his Camano Island home just after 6 a.m. Sunday morning. So he drove all the way to Marysville to buy a new generator.
"The Seahawks were about to play football," he said.
Howell knew his time was running short to see the game, so he listened in with his truck's radio as he put his new generator together.
"We're gonna put it on the front porch, so that we can get to the pump house as well as have the Seahawks game going," he said.
Howell says despite the recent storms, the power outage came as a real surprise.
"We live on this back road, but our power's all underground so we don't lose power very often," he said.
And he was hardly alone. 13,000 of his neighbors were in the dark most of Sunday. Resident Jennifer Wilmar says her power has been as storm my as the weather lately.
"We've been out twice for three days," she said. "Last week we were out twice - three, four hours at a time. It's cold."
The Soonish County PUD says a problem with the transmission line north and west of Arlington triggered the outage.
Resident Tom Mason says the outage left him with few options.
"We've got a wood stove. I know they got a burn ban, but what do you do? You've gotta stay warm," he said.
