Woman moves into rooftop tent to raise $1 million
EDMONDS, Wash. -- In these tough times, one woman is raising the bar for charity giving. Literally.

Carol Schillos has moved into a tent pitched on the roof of her boutique in downtown Edmonds, and she plans to stay there until a million people send her $1 each to benefit her charity, Fabric of Life.

The nonprofit group works to improve the quality of life for women and their families in poverty-stricken regions around the world with focus on affordable credit, education and health care.

But Schillos wants more than just a buck from a million people. She also wants each contributor to tell her how he or she is changing the world, however small the impact.

"It's to highlight the needs everywhere, and show that the people really have huge capacities. And that small is big, small has possibilities, small does make the world change," Schillos said.

Schillos moved into her makeshift home on Friday, small suitcase in hand.

"Our goal for the community is that we raise awareness that when people cooperate and collaborate, great things can happen," she said. "And that type of community support is a reason to get up every morning, even if it's in a tent on the top of a roof."
