Mom turns in suspected tanning salon thief
SEATTLE -- The man suspected in a string of tanning salon robberies around the Puget Sound has been arrested.

Police arrested Brandon Smith in the driveway of his Lake Stevens home on Sunday morning. Police said the man's own mother turned him in after she recognized him in the surveillance video of one of the robberies.

The video shows a man pacing the aisle inside an Everett sex shop. When the coast is clear, the man walks up to the clerk, pulls out a gun and demands money.

Facing a judge in court, Smith didn't say a word. Police say he confessed to robbing 20 different stores - 18 tanning salons and 2 sex shops. The gun he flashed during the robberies was fake, detectives said.

Police have not determined why Smith targeted tanning salons.

He is being held on $750,000 bail.
