Caught on video: Car slams into home
The incident, which was captured on a home security video camera, injured the 24-year-old male driver, who was taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton.
North Kitsap Fire & Rescue crews were called to the home at the intersection of Hood Canal Drive and Cliffside Road, about four miles south of Hansville, at about 4 a.m.
Firefighters who responded to the accident said the wayward SUV, an older model Ford Explorer, traveled about 175 feet off the roadway before hitting the home.
The vehicle was totaled in the crash, said North Kitsap Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Michele Laboda.
The driver was found outside the Explorer, wandering around in the predawn darkness. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
There were no injuries to the four family members who were sleeping inside the home.
Despite the force of the collision, damage to the structure was minimal – most likely due to the type of construction. The home’s walls are made of a type of insulating concrete forms, known as Quad-lock, with a thickness of 16 inches.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
