Woman living in moth-infested nightmare
BOTHELL, Wash. -- Moths have completely taken over a home here. They're in all the clothes, the furniture -- and they're even in the walls.
After fighting against infestation for more than a year, Carmen Cubine says she just can't take it anymore!
For every hundred she traps everyday, she, her partner and her son find another hundred larvae cocooned in every single crack and crevasse.
"It's a living nightmare," she said. "You wake up and see these things flying around -- you find these worms in your bed on your towels in your furniture."
And not only is Carmen at her wit's end, her body can't take much more.
"I have an illness -- it's adult onset stills disease," she said.
It's a debilitating disease and most days, she's confined to her bed.
"It's very rare, very serious - I'm on disability it affects my joints and my immune system," she said.
The last thing her family needs is finding hole after hole after hole after hole.
Just about every piece of clothing Carmen owns is in the trash. All of her furniture has to go too.
The problem started for Carmen 18 months ago, She's been through exterminator after exterminator after exterminator and now that everything has to be taken out of her home because it's littered with moths.
There's one more chance for her and one more exterminator.
The closets, the dressers -- every surface has to be sprayed. The exterminators say this house is as bad as it gets.
"I've been in houses before where you see the larvae crawling the walls," said Al Brown with Cascade Pest Control.
Carmen says whatever it takes, she just wants her life back.
"They took over our home," she said. "It got to the point where I was screaming at these vermin 'Get out of my house!' "
Brown says moths don't just appear, they get introduced to the home. Carmen doesn't know how they got inside.
