Woman 'inconsolable' after dog dies in hot car

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. -- The owner of a dog who died in a hot car on Thursday said she forgot the animal was in the vehicle.

Bainbridge Island police said the woman called 911 about 2:45 p.m. and said she left the dog inside the vehicle for several hours.

The dog, a black lab named "Bear," was dead when police arrived.

The woman told police she returned home about 11 a.m. and forgot to let the dog out of the vehicle. The windows were rolled up and it was about 80 degrees outside.

Police said the temperature inside the car could have reached 120 degrees.
