Police: Man high on PCP kills father, 50
SEATTLE - A 29-year-old man was arrested early Sunday after telling officers he got high on PCP and shot his 50-year-old father dead, police said.
Prosecutors identified the arrested man Monday as Tai Duc Thong.
Officers responded to the scene, in the 9000 block of 39th Ave. South, at about 2:20 a.m., after receiving a 911 call from a man saying he had shot his father.
When police arrived, they called for the home's occupants to come outside. Thong, who police say appeared to be high on drugs, came out of the home with his mother.
As the man came out, he was yelling and screaming, said witnesses. One witness, Susan Quigley, said he apparently was terrified that police would shoot him as he came out.
"They're gonna kill me! Stop them, mom! They're going to kill me - I know they're going to kill me!" he screamed, according to Quigley.
Once officers were able to enter the house, they found the father lying on the floor next to the front door. He was unconscious and unresponsive, with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest.
Seattle Fire Department medics were called to the scene, but the victim was already dead.
Police say Thong later told them he had smoked PCP about 45 minutes before the shooting
Thong was first taken to Harborview Medical Center because he was having psychotic episodes. After his release from the hospital, he was booked into King County Jail for investigation of homicide.
Quigley said the Thong lived at home with his mother and father and always kept to himself.
"He's never caused us any trouble," she says.
Crime scene investigators took a computer and several other personal items from the home as evidence on Sunday. They also searched all three of the family cars.
"It's horrible for the family - we feel horrible for them - very, very tough," Quigley says.
