Man killed, son injured in crash with dump truck

OSO, Wash. -- A man was killed and his son was critically injured when the car they were in collided head-on with a dump truck early Monday.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary said the younger man was driving on State Route 530 when he crossed the center line about 5:16 a.m. and crashed into the dump truck.

The driver of the car, a 27-year-old man from Arlington, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries.

The man's 49-year-old father, who was riding in the passenger seat, was killed in the crash. His name has not been released.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Troopers shut down SR-530 east of Oso at milepost 36 for several hours while they collected evidence at the scene.

Leary said it did not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, but it was not known what caused the driver to lose control of the car.
