GORST, Wash. -- An 86-year-old woman has died of injuries she sustained when her own car rolled over her.

The Washington State Patrol said Gertrude L. Thompson, of Bremerton, was injured August 20 after she stopped on the side of the road in the 3400 block of Belfair Valley Road.

Investigators said she got out of her Cadillac to look at a demolished building and accidentally put the car in reverse. The vehicle rolled backwards and ran over her.

Thompson was pinned under the car until a passing driver stopped to help move the vehicle off her.

She was taken to Tacoma General Hospital and later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she died Saturday night.
