1 dead, 4 injured in multi-car crash in Mount Vernon
MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- One person was killed and four others injured when a motorcycle and two cars collided on Friday night.
The accident occurred on State Route 9 about a mile north of Big Lake just after 6 p.m.
Trooper Keith Leary said Kawasaki cruiser-style motorcycle was headed north on the roadway when it crossed the center line and crashed, head-on , with a southbound Honda CRX.
The CRX then crossed the median and struck a northbound Hyundai sedan, he said.
The motorcyclist, a 60-year-old Mount Vernon man, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
The driver of the Honda was rushed to Skagit Valley Hospital with serious injuries. The 53-year-old Mount Vernon woman's condition was not known.
The Hyundai's driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Two unidentified passengers of the car were transported to Skagit Valley Hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the investigation has not been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
The roadway was shut down for several hours following the crash, but reopened just before 9 p.m.
