SEATTLE - The flu is certainly one topic getting a lot of talk this weekend. Two King County children died from flu-related complications in the past two weeks. Then, there was fear a third child died from the virus this weekend, but later announced the 7-year-old Bellevue boy died from a non-flu-related bacterial infection.

But with flu in the news so much, King County is taking steps to ease people's fears by holding additional flu vaccination clinics.

"Our department's going to be holding some special vaccination clinics in case people want to get vaccinated over the weekend," said Dr. Jeff Duchin with Seattle & King County Public Health. "We'll make it available to them."

A flu vaccination clinic will be held at the Eastgate Public Health Center in Bellevue from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m on Monday, February 19.

The big focus right now is on kids. With two local elementary school girls dying from rare complications of the flu in just two weeks, a lot of parents are scrambling to find flu shots for their children.

"What we're really seeing now are children and teenagers and Mom's are really interested in getting that," said pharmacist Beverly Schafer.

Doctors say vaccinations are the best way to prevent the flu and want to emphasize that it's not too late to get a shot.

Although it takes 10 days for the flu vaccine to take full effect, doctors would be quick to tell you that even on the first day, you'll have more immunity than you did the day before. So the consensus is if you don't have a flu shot yet and you're worried, go get one.
