Man admits to molesting more than 100 victims over the years
LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- Police here have arrested a man accused of rubbing himself against two girls in a swimming pool over the weekend, and they believe there may be more than 100 additional victims.
On Sunday, Daquan Mitchell, 40, of Lynnwood, was arrested and booked into jail for investigation of first-degree and second-degree child molestation.
Investigators said a woman said the man had molested her 9-year-old daughter and 12-year-old niece in the water while she was sitting poolside.
The woman told detectives the girls came over and said "a man had flipped them around in the pool and had rubbed his "Pee Pee" against them two or three times," according to the statement of probable cause.
The woman confronted the man, who ran out of the pool, out into the parking lot and into his car. The mother gave chase, yelling at bystanders to write down his license plate number, which was only partially recorded.
The center employees told police the man had paid with a credit card. Using the transaction information, officers identified the man as Daquan Mitchell.
Mitchell was arrested at his home.
When questioned by detectives, Mitchell said he had gone to the rec center around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. While swimming in the pool, he said, he saw two girls whom he estimated to be 13 and 6 years old. Mitchell added "he found them attractive," the statement said.
Mitchell said he knocked one of the girls off of the raft and grabbed her, placing her between himself and the raft. He said he then rubbed himself against her buttocks and thighs "for gratification," he told detectives. He said he rubbed himself against each girl several times.
The man admitted to having engaged in such behavior for years and "estimated he had at least 100 victims," the statement said. He added many of his victims "probably thought it was innocent touching that occurred as he passed by them."
Mitchell said he was warned by Kent police in 1989 when he rubbed himself against a 17-year-old girl. He was arrested three years later in Kent, however, after doing the same to a 9-year-old girl, he said.
Then in 2003, Mitchell said he was arrested in Mountlake Terrace for exposure. He was sentenced to jail but was released on probation.
But Mitchell violated parole - a fact that surfaced while he was taking a polygraph test, according to the police report. The test revealed Mitchell had rubbed against two women in a casino and at a night club in Canada. The women were unaware he was doing this intentionally, he said. Mitchell was jailed, then released on probation in June 2008.
Mitchell admitted he had entered treatment programs on three different occasions, but none had proven effective. He added he believes the drug Lupron - a synthetic hormone drug - could help him control his urges, but he could not afford it.
Mitchell is being held on $300,000 bail.
