STARTUP, Wash. -- Deputies here are asking for help identifying a man who may have tried to abduct a young girl Tuesday morning.

Snohomish County sheriff spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said a 10-year-old girl told investigators she was waiting at a bus stop in the 14200 block of 367th Ave when a man ran toward her.

The girl ran to a nearby house, but the man followed her and came down the driveway before he ran off, Hover said.

"This girl was alert. She was aware of what was going on around her, and she ran to a nearby house to try to make it look like that was where she lived. So that was smart," said Hover.

The girl went home and told her dad, who said he panicked when his daughter threw open the front door and dropped to her knees, crying.

"She came in hysterically running through the front door, saying, his guy tried to take me Dad,"' said Andrew Parlier. "I was very upset, angry. All kinds of emotions came through my mind. 'What could have happened? What just happened?'"

Parlier searched the area and later told deputies he saw a man he didn't recognize get into a faded green truck. The man said the vehicle may have been a 1970s or 80s Datsun.

Deputies were not able to find the truck, but asked anyone with information to call the sheriff's tip line at 425-388-3845. The truck was last seen headed west on Highway 2 near Sultan, investigators said.

The girl described the man as white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, bald and in his mid-20s. He was wearing ripped jeans and a dark blue T-shirt.

Hover said it was unclear if the man the father saw in the truck as the same person the girl described.
