NEAR SHELTON, Wash. -- A small microquake hit near the border of Mason and Thurston counties Wednesday night, unleashing a small wave of tremors throughout the region.
The U.S. Geological Survey said a 3.4-magnitude quake struck at 8:30 p.m. some 6 miles west of Shelton and 9 miles north of McCleary.
Several people in Olympia, Puyallup and Gig Harbor reported having felt tremors.
"I heard a muffled boom, then the ground shook," said Myron Cornett, who lives 5 miles outside of McCleary on State Route 108. "My brother's home next door to us was shaking from side to side."
There were no reports of injuries.
