Girls suffer critical burns in overnight house fire
YELM, Wash. -- Twin 9-year-old sisters suffered critical burns when their house caught fire early Thursday morning.
The girls and three other family members were inside the home at 16200 118th Lane when the fire broke out about 2 a.m.
The girls' mother, stepdad and another sibling made it out, but the girls were trapped inside.
The step dad ran back in to the burning home and got the two girls out. They were flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with burns to their lungs.
Their injuries were described as critical, but medics at the scene said they expected the girls to recover.
The other family members were treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
Officials said the fire started in an electrical socket in a front room of the house.
