SEATTLE - Off-duty officers nabbed two men suspected of assaulting a cab driver early Saturday on lower Queen Anne. A third suspect got away.
The incident began when the Yellow Cab driver picked up the three suspects at 3rd Avenue West and McGraw Street and took them to Queen Anne Avenue North and Mercer Street.
The men refused to pay the $11 fare and fled, police said.
The driver later spotted the three men at a business in the area and asked them for his money. The suspects then assaulted the driver, which drew the attention of the off-duty officers working in the area, police said.
One suspect was detained and arrested immediately. A second suspect fled with one of the off-duty officers chasing after him.
With assistance from other responding units, the second suspect was captured in the alley in the 500 block between Queen Anne Avenue North and 1st Avenue West. The third suspect was able to evade capture.
The cab driver was in some pain after the assault, but did not require medical attention.
The two suspects were booked into King County jail for investigation of assault.
