Boy, 6, hit while waiting for school bus
BREMERTON, Wash. - A 6-year-old boy was injured when he was struck by a van Friday morning while waiting for a school bus near Bremerton.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene, at the corner of Werner and Eden roads, at about 8:25 a.m.

The boy, a first-grader at Kitsap Lake Elementary School, suffered a dislocated hip, according to a family friend. He was taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, then transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The family friend told KOMO News the boy was doing better Friday evening and was expected to be released soon.

The boy had been waiting for the school bus when he suddenly darted out in front of the van. He was running to get something from his mother, who was parked across the street in her vehicle, and didn't look both ways before crossing.

The van driver had little or no time to react, and is not considered to be at fault in the accident, said Kitsap County Sheriff's Office spokesman Scott Wilson.

Counselors are going to the school to speak with other children who witnessed the incident.
