Kitsap guard accused of raping juvenile ex-inmate

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) - A former Kitsap County juvenile detention guard has been charged with raping a 17-year-old former inmate and her 16-year-old acquaintance.

Twenty-one-year-old Kyle D. James was charged Friday with two counts of third-degree rape. He remained in jail Sunday with bail set at $100,000.

The older teen was sent to detention at age 16 while James was working as a on-call guard. She told investigators she agreed to meet and drink with him in parks after he sent her messages on the social networking Web site MySpace following release. The younger teen says she met James through the older girl.

Both say they felt pressured into having sex with him.

James says the sex was consensual. He lost his job as an on-call guard because of a staff reduction in August.
